Woodward Dream Cruise 2010

The Woodward Dream Cruise has come and gone for another year.  Saturday’s morning and afternoon rain forced most of the cars to the sidelines.  However, by about 5:00 pm the rain and clouds moved out and the Cruisers and the viewers were back out in force.  Although the Dream Cruise is not really housing related, it has become a part of the social fabric of the Motor City.

The Dream Cruise was started by a small group of car enthusiasts in 1995 and has grown into the biggest single-day car event in the world. Cars and cruisers come to Michigan from all parts of the country, and beyond, to participate and drive Woodward Avenue from Ferndale to Pontiac thru the cities of Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods, Royal Oak, Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills.  Most of the old drive-ins and hangouts are gone, but the cars and their owners remain.  According to the Dream Cruise official website, 40,000 classics cars and over 1.5 million people participate in each year’s event.

While official Cruise ran from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Saturday, August 21st, local residents and car people knew that the unofficial cruise began several weeks earlier and really heated up each evening the entire week before the actual day of the event.  Here are a few photographs from this year’s cruise.
